A Note from Steve Hawthorne:
I wrote these articles at different times and for different audiences. I selected these three as a way to help you encourage others (and yourself!) to live your life and to pray your prayers toward the sure hope that Christ is going to be known and followed in your world and in all the world.
About "The Story of His Glory"
This is one of the primary parts of the textbook and course called "Perspectives
on the World Christian Movement." Be forewarned! This article has been
known to be passion-forming. You won't find a lot of drippy sentimental ideas.
What you will find is a sturdy biblical paradigm, an all-encompassing vision
of what God is working toward all over the earth and all through every part
of history. Your life is probably far more significant than you may have realized.
For many, this vision of Christ's greater glory has united their lives around
the love of God, instilling hope and passion in every area of life. I'm
working on a book-length exploration of this biblical vision. Pray for me to
complete different portions of it in early 2002.
About "God's Way of Displaying His Glory"
This brief item is about prayer. It's an adaptation of an article which
appeared in Pray! Magazine in 1996. These two pages will help you to encourage
others to pray with focus and resolute purpose. Read this to get a clearer idea
about why we pray at all. Read this to understand why God is rallying us to
pray together as never before.
About "Our Vision Lifted"
I was asked to bring this address to the international assembly that was to
have gathered in Jerusalem during the final days of the millennium. The conference
was called "Celebrate Messiah" sponsored by "The AD2000 and Beyond"
movement. The conference was canceled at the very last moment because of political
pressures within the Israeli government. This address had already been prepared,
and this is the written text. It was scheduled to be presented on the evening
of December 31, 2000. Needless to say, I and many others were greatly disappointed
that the conference was canceled. But I would love for you to read this message.
It's addressed to leaders of mission efforts, but you'll find your vision directed
toward what matters most as we come ever closer to the culmination of all that
God has purposed in Christ.
